Soft launch and updates

While F-hub.org will only officially launch after Forgejo enables ActivityPub federation, we have now reached a state where people interested in participating can request an account.

Apply for an account

We have a new section on our Wiki that goes into some more detail how to apply for an account and what is included. It is still a bit of a work in progress, so please let us know what is unclear and could be improved.

Recently added features

We recently added a nice web-client for registered users based on The Lounge. If you are new to IRC, this is probably the best option for you as it works out of the box on both desktop and mobile browsers and has all the typical features one would expect. For more advanced users we also have a new Wiki page now that explains what other clients are recommended with our modern IRCv3 capable hybrid network.

We also made some changes to our IRC bridging infrastructure and can now bridge to libera.chat via our Matterbridge software. This became necessary, due to the temporary(?) shut-down of the Matrix bridge that effected some of the existing communities that are home to our hybrid network.

Ongoing works

Behind the scenes, we are working on some hardware changes for a dedicated x86 build server and made some preparations for running a small ARM64 cluster of SBCs. Our UPS system also got upgraded and now allows much better monitoring of battery state in case of unexpected power cuts.

We are also still investigating good CI/CD options and work will start soon for the integration of our Weblate translation software instance.

Stay tuned for more updates here.
